Safety Notice
Participants should take particular care when travelling or undertaking recreational activities outside the formal conference programme.
Please comply with Australian laws, road rules, local regulations, warning signs and instructions issued by relevant authorities.
Personal travel and recreational activities are undertaken at the participant’s own risk.
When visiting beaches, rivers or coastal areas, remain alert to drowning hazards, changing weather and tides, slippery rocks, rip currents, strong surf, and sudden or unexpectedly large waves.
Swim only at patrolled beaches and between the red and yellow flags, and do not enter the water when conditions are unsafe or beyond your swimming ability.
Surf Life Saving Australia identifies rip currents as one of the most significant hazards on Australian beaches.
For outdoor activities, participants are advised to wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses, seek shade where possible, and use broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. Sunscreen should be applied before sun exposure and reapplied regularly, particularly after swimming or sweating.
Anyone undertaking fishing, boating or other water-based activities must comply with all applicable state or territory laws, including licensing or permit requirements, restricted areas, permitted equipment, and species, size and possession limits.
An approved and appropriately fitted lifejacket should be worn when boating, when required by law, and during fishing activities where there is a risk of falling into the water, particularly from exposed rocks or coastal locations.
Please prioritise personal safety at all times—no photograph, fishing opportunity or recreational activity is worth entering unsafe water, approaching exposed coastal rocks or disregarding official warnings. |
